Karen Casey

“My paintings are a response to my immediate environment and the sensations and impressions that I experience. Since I began my watercolor journey several years ago I’ve experienced a strengthened connection with my environment, which I see with wider eyes and feel with heightened senses.
My medium is mainly watercolors, as I love the many characteristics that the pigments can assume as they are applied to paper. I am attracted to the versatility of the medium; how granular pigments can be used to create texture, or the way the paint can be applied as thin transparent jewels, or used in a much bolder, brighter and exciting application.
Typically my paintings are stylized interpretations of my subjects, which I translate into compositions with strong lines and shapes and weave with color. My subject matter comes from whatever excites me at the moment, be it a portrait, landscape, botanical, cityscape, or still life.”
