Margot Clayton

Born in England, but raised in Victoria, I studied art in the various places we lived after I was married; Niagara Falls, Argentina and Toronto. We finally returned to Victoria in 1979 and I painted and taught painting in oils for 8 years.

Studying watercolour techniques and working with pastels has enriched my love of colour. I'm convinced that much can be learned from each that will help the artist in his own medium.

My favourite works are based on the unique West Coast forests which I missed so much during our years away.

Art, like life, seems to be a never-ending learning experience. The fun is in the planning and gathering of material, the atmosphere of the surroundings and the friends made along the way. The painting itself is hard work and becomes a cluster of problems to be solved, but with each solution comes enormous satisfaction.
